Alcone Company started in 1950 as a pharmacy that also sold cosmetics and false eyelashes to Broadway showgirls and starlettes.
Our philosophy then is still the same today…find the best makeup products from around the world and offer them at affordable prices so everyone (not just the rich and fabulous) will benefit. A TIMELINE FROM OUR START IN 1950 TO TODAY
Al Cohen starts Alcone
Alvin and Harriet Cohen open "Alcone Company" in the back of his parents drugstore on 32 West 20th Street, NYC. This new company sells showgirl eyelashes, theatrical makeup, lighting and other production items.
Vincent and Barbara Mallardi buy a Theatrical Hardware store called Mutual Hardware. It sells hardware items specific to theatre and film production.
Our family buys Alcone
Vincent and Barbara Mallardi buy Alcone Company as a compliment to their growing hardware business.
We move to LIC, NY
We move Alcone out of its storefront on 575 8th Avenue on the 20th floor to a building next to Mutual Hardware in spacious Long Island City.
Our Fearless Leaders
Vincent is made President of Alcone and Mary is made President of Mutual Hardware.
Three guys come to Mary and Vincent seeking supplies for their new show. Alcone provides them with some makeup and paint and wishes them well. Those three men become The Blue Man Group.
We Get Exclusive Lines
A French cosmetic line called Visiora asks Alcone to become the exclusive distributor in the U.S. Within a few years, this foundation becomes the standard for use in High Definition Film and Television. Celebrities love Visiora (they still do) and it finds its way into the mainstream through magazine mentions.
We Open In Chelsea
Alcone opens a store in Chelsea at 233 West 19th Street.
We Take It To TV
Alcone becomes the exclusive distributor of an innovative product called Face to Face SuperMatte Antishine. Vincent brings the product to the QVC Shopping Channel.
We Launch Our Own Line
Alcone goes on the Home Shopping Network with their own line called Beauty/Tech - a compilation of the best products and colors that Alcone sells. This line eventually evolves into Alcone at Home.
We Get Online
AlconeCo.com is launched.
The Creative Director of a new Broadway show called The Lion King approaches Alcone about providing all the makeup.
The Go-To For Shows
Alcone continues to grow its inventory and professional customer base. It eventually becomes the go-to store for almost every Broadway show and New York-based production.
We Outgrow Our Space
Mutual Hardware Moves to a larger warehouse down the road, and Alcone expands into a full warehouse.
Alcone For Everyone
Alcone at Home is launched as a way for Artists and Makeup Enthusiasts to sell professional makeup to women across the country.
Bigger and Better!
Alconeco.com is upgraded and Alcone Agency is launched.
Alcone at Home evolves into LimeLight by Alcone and adds all-natural, luxury skin care to their existing beauty line.
Alcone Company Today
This year is going to be a significant period of growth for our company. To start, we transitioned to an improved and more efficient point of sale and inventory management system. We then revised our website to tie into this new computer system. This site looks better and is more helpful, but the real genius is that it will communicate inventory and shipping more accurately than ever before.
We have also renovated our Broadway store. But the real excitement is in the two new businesses we recently launched, Alcone Pro and LimeLight by Alcone. Alcone Pro is an online portfolio site for makeup artists, which allows them to inspire other artists and keep their careers moving forward. LimeLight by Alcone is a way for makeup artists to sell the best Alcone products direct to their customers for a 25-30% commission.
